I haven’t been to the dentist in 10 years

Hello.

I have not been to the dentist in 10 years. Every time I think about going I get this build up of anxiety and start to feel sick and dizzy. I am now 25 and my teeth are awful. I have 4 back teeth that have pretty much rotted to the gum with just the base of the tooth left. It is causing me so much misery and its smells really bad too which makes me not want to talk to people. I am so scared the dentist will have a go at me and say he cant fix them. I’m too embarrassed to go but I know that of I don’t sort them now they will get even worse. Will they be able to get the teeth out even though they are down to the gum? And will they be able to sedate me while they do it. Thanks in advance

Firstly you have identified some teeth that have rotted to the gum . It sounds like you know in your heart that they might not be saveable .
When you see the dentist you need to tell them how anxious you are . It is possible to get sedation for extractions or other treatment , but they may need to refer you to a suitable facility for that . Dentists are trained to take teeth out whatever condition they are in , even rotted down to the gum .
The dentist wont have a go at you , but will tell you exactly what the condition of the teeth is , thats their job and what you have gone for .
Mostly dentists are not judgemental , but sometimes people who are very embarrassed or ashamed feel as if they are .
Hope this helps , pluck up courage to make an appointment so that you can get rid of the unhappiness this is causing
