I have had bad experiences with my dentist

March 20th, 2013
Q.

I’m a 20 yr old student in Scotland, I’ve had the same dentist all my life and in the past couple of years I’ve had quite a lot of work done. It’s not the work that scares me its the dentist himself. The last time i was there, which would’ve been 6 months ago, after I’d had 2 fillings he took an old brush he’d had somewhere and sorta brushed my teeth.. without anything on it ofc, it was quite rough, and it made me gag. That added with my numb jaw so i couldnt swallow trying to balance all the liquids and then he flossed my teeth and ofc they bled and he yelled at me for them bleeding and then he handed me said floss/brush/some toothpaste and sent me off. He’s belittled me in the past but after that – i have a check up in 2 days – and i really see myself cancelling it tomorrow. I don’t see how i can go

My dentist was rude and insensitive, what should I do now?

July 4th, 2012
Q.

hello i have really bad dental phobia, i’m not sure what scares me the most about going to the dentist but i haven’t been for a long time because of it. i went for a check-up yesterday after avoiding my dentist for years and he was very rude and actually insulting. this has really upset me, i know i shouldn’t have avoided the dentist but i thought he might have been a bit more sensitive about the situation. i explained that i was petrified about coming but he just snapped at me. i really don’t want to go back, i’m due to have several fillings. what should i do?

I need sedation for all my dental work but now my dentist won’t offer it me?

June 12th, 2012
Q.

Good afternoon
Because of my dental phobia i have sedation treatment for all my dental work, i visited my dentist yesterday and my bridge is starting to crumble and needs to come out and be replaced my sedation dentist does not offer this work under sedation and my dentist told me to go see my doctor to get some form of medication to help me through this dental work. What is known as the best relaxer/oral sedation that you can get from your Doctor ? I am terrified but know i need this work done.
Thanks

I feel patronized when learning about my phobia but I haven’t been to the dentist since 2007?

June 8th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I have been on a few dental phobia sites over the last few days and have found that a lot of them are quite patronizing with cartoony pictures on and stuff. I like this site because it doesn’t do this. the problem is I also find a lot of them take the same approach of saying is it this thats wrong(fear of drill…etc) or this? I don’t actually know what Is wrong and it’s annoying me now I haven’t been the dentist since 2007 when I left school because of it. Do you please know of anyway I can begin to outline/define what the issue is and how I can begin to deal with it :( thank you

I feel that sedation will help me, should I ask to be referred to a hospital?

May 29th, 2012
Q.

I have an appointment tomorrow, and I suffer from dental phobia. It has taken a lot to get even this far with regards to the appointment.
I know I have a problem with a tooth that may need to be removed. I really feel that sedation can help me, but it’s not done at my surgery. How do I go about getting sedation?
Do I have a right to ask for a referral to hospital? Or may I have to fight to get it?
Thank you

I need to go to the dentist but cannot amass the courage, what’s the best way to proceed?

May 29th, 2012
Q.

Hello Doctor,
I have a very painful molar so I know that I need to go to the dentist, but I haven’t worked up the courage yet!
I do look after my teeth, but I haven’t been to the dentist for nearly three years and this is the first time i have had a problem.
My question really is when I call a dentist is it best to tell them that I am dental phobic first? Also, Is it up to me what form of treatment I have?I really like the sound of the wand because I don’t like needles either. thank you for your time.
