My dentist was rude and insensitive, what should I do now?

July 4th, 2012
Q.

hello i have really bad dental phobia, i’m not sure what scares me the most about going to the dentist but i haven’t been for a long time because of it. i went for a check-up yesterday after avoiding my dentist for years and he was very rude and actually insulting. this has really upset me, i know i shouldn’t have avoided the dentist but i thought he might have been a bit more sensitive about the situation. i explained that i was petrified about coming but he just snapped at me. i really don’t want to go back, i’m due to have several fillings. what should i do?

I am worried that my recent dental work will give me problems on a plane?

May 29th, 2012
Q.

Dear Jennifer,

I was always afraid of the dentist but over the last year I’ve been there twice, had a root canal redone some months ago and now it feels much better than before. I am going for a cleaning and a filling this month.
The problem is, when I had the root canal done the first time, my dentist didn’t close it, because I was flying in a week’s time and told me the air pressure in the plane will make it painful. I have my root canal redone (due to tooth cracking) as I have mentioned before, 6 months ago.

I would like to ask you, although I know it’s embarrassing, after 6 months, has the tooth settled, or is there a possibility that it might hurt in the plane? Also, if I have a filling 2 weeks before flying, will I be ok to fly?

Thank you in advance

I have a really bad pain in one of my molars, but I am absolutely terrified of treatment, what can I do?

October 14th, 2011
Q.

hi.. I am having problems with one of my molars due to a tiny tiny fraction and my dentist is recommending further treatment for it.. Its feeling really bruised with the occasional sharp throbbing shooting pain. What is this bruising??

Not sure what the further treatment will be, but she is recommending a crown. How will that resolve a broken tooth??

I am absolutely terrified. I am extremely nervous and can barely cope with a check up appointment. I cant function with anything else right now, not because of the pain but because of my anxiety. I’m overly obsessed by it.

I have heard about sedation possibilities, but I know that my practice doesn’t offer IV sedation. So I would need oral sedation. What medication would be recommended for this. I had to undergo a medical procedure and my GP gave me some diazepam, which didn’t go anywhere near me. Also how would I feel after I have taken this medication.

PS – I love cats too and i volunteer for the RSPCA.
thank you    : D

Could you tell me about the WAND treatment as I’m scared of needles?

October 12th, 2011
Q.

hello

could you give me any information on the WAND treatment? I really dislike injections of any kind, but especially hate injections in my mouth, which have embarrassingly made me throw up before! How painless is the WAND really and could you give anymore information on it? I am in need of a filling for a tooth at the back of my mouth which is causing me much pain and I know i’m going to need some kind of anesthesia, if i can have it painlessly that would be brilliant.

thank you very much

I bust into tears when informed I needed a filling as they don’t offer sedation. What can I do?

September 14th, 2011
Q.

Please can you help me, I have a really terrible fear of the dentist and actually burst into tears when my dentist told me that at my next appointment she would have to drill in to my tooth to give me a filling. They don’t offer laughing gas or any form of sedation at my dentist. I know its a really silly fear but i hope you can help me

Will my children’s teeth end up like mine?

July 20th, 2011
Q.

I have sever dental pain radiating up the side of my head I presently taking codeine but am terrified of the dentist although my life is unbearable due to the pain and the amount of codeine I’m taking is affecting my ability to work safely. I have always had terrible teeth always had filling had 8 teeth removed at 15 as my baby teeth hadn’t dropped out. I then had braces and was regularly told of by my dentist and orthodontist. In university when I went to the dental hospital I received a lecture on smoking (which I have never done) but was told that was the reason my teeth were the colour they were. I fear my children will have teeth like me and will have endless fillings, is it possible i have a low dentin level and this is what makes my teeth so fragile (my mother wanted to have my teeth coated and the dentist informed her it was a load of nonsense. I just don’t want my children to go through what I have if it is unnecessary.
