How would you help me get over my childhood experience?

Hi… I was wondering what to so in order to get over a childhood experience? As a child I had a tooth removed that grew awkwardly, it’s one of my earliest memories of the dentist. The tooth wouldn’t come which made the proces more labourious for the surgeon but more painful for me as the sedation probably wasnt as strong as it could/should be meaning I could feel it, and It hurt like hell! I have changed dentists twice and am goo for checkups but I avoid any treatment I need. I don’t want problems with my teeth later in life :( If I came to your dental suit with this issue where would you start? thank

Hello , your traumatic experience has burnt itself deep in your memory .
If you came to me then we would first of all talk to you about why you have become so fearful , then find out what treatment you need .
We would work out how you might be helped , good pain control to have a better experience , manage your anxieties and help with specific problems .
We also help by giving you some homework about how you could deal with the intrusive thoughts about your past experience .
Where are the blocks and barriers are that are preventing you going through with any treatment
Problems caught early can be sorted out with minor treatment rather than waiting for extractions or deep fillings .
Hope this helps
Jenny,
