I am scared of the dentist but need a tooth extraction.
im really worried about a tooth i have that is wobbly and painful, mostly because i really do not like the dentist. I know that i have to have the tooth taken out and soon! but i don’t know how to go about overcoming my fear. It’s the pain more than anything else, but i guess as i am already in pain, it seems silly me worrying so much!
Could you suggest anything which might help me at least cope with my fear?
thank you doctor nery
I think it might help you to see your doctor and ask if he can give you something to help settle your nerves to take the evening before, and /or on the morning of your appointment with the dentist. It is also a good idea to ask to speak to the receptionist or preferably the dentist and explain how you feel , I am sure they will be sympathetic and will want to help you. You could also try something like Rescue Remedy, which is a homeopathic aid to help with anxious situations.
Once over this, you may want to look into Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help you overcome your fear in the longer term – again you could ask your doctor for referral.
Good luck
