I am worried about having a general anaesthetic

I am terrified of the dentist, I haven’t been for a few years last march I had a broken tooth and went to a dentist. He said I needed to have it removed he tried to remove it but said he couldn’t as I would bleed too much.He referred me to two consultants one being special dental care unit as I am so anxious both referrals were sent back as I asked for a general anaesthetic. Now my dentist has referred me to a clinic that will give me sedation but I am so nervous about it. Will i still be able to swallow? I am seriously thinking of leaving it even though i am just about living on antibiotics
many thanks

Hello A sedation clinic might be the right answer for you .
When you are given intra venous sedation you will be at a level of consciousness just above a general anaesthetic .
That means that you will be able to swallow , co-operate with being spoken to , but be unaware of what is happening , many people remember nothing .
It is a very safe technique and helps many people to get the treatment they need.
You have the opportunity to be referred for this , so take it , please dont just leave it or the problem will never go away .
