I have severe dental phobia
Hi,
I have a severe severe dental phobia i have not been to a dentist in 9 years and my teeth are in really bad condition I have a large hole in one of my molars and am sure I require some extractions and removals. However I have a devastating fear of dentists and needles last time I attempted to go to a dental surgery I passed out.
What can I do – what are the options for people like myself.
Thanks for your help.
First of all have a look at www.dentalfearcentral.org
There are lots of resources to start looking at to help you .
It sounds as if you may benefit from trying to get some Cognitive Behaviour Therapy ( CBT) your GP should be able to direct you to a facilty and refer you .
It may also be a good idea to look at Anxiety UK . There is some stuff on there which help people to practice relaxation techniques to help prevent the anxiety overwhelming you and feeling faint .
If you can get past the first obstacle of getting to the dentist , then just take one step at a time . Is there anyone who could go with you for support ?
