I haven’t visited the dentist in over 9 years because of my extreme dental phobia, what should I do?

Hello there Dr, I am 37 and I haven’t been to a dentist in over 9 years because of my fear of going. I really hope you can try and help me with my problem. I have been suffering a lot with tooth pain lately but am so scared to visit a dentist I was wondering if I asked for a sedative they would agree? I don’t think I can do it without it because I had a very bad time the last time I went to a dentist and it has scared me a lot I don’t want to suffer pain much longer. I know I need to over come my fears and I am really trying. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you for any help in advance.

Hello and thank you for your question. It’s very sensible to ask for some help with your dental anxiety .
All dentists should be able to provide a minimum of a 5 or 10 mgm of diazepam , without a problem . Let the dentist know how you are feeling and don’t be afraid to ask for it. I hope this helps. Jenny
