Where should I start now that I feel my dental phobia won’t prevent me getting treatment?
HI there I am a long term phobia patient, I’ve hated dentists for as long as I can remember but I don’t know why? If i’m honest I never really looked for help as I didnt know there was all these things that can potentially help! @The problem now is theres too much choice if you will like a kid in a candy shop- but for the first time! where would I start in trying to calm my nerves. basically Its when I go into the suit I get really fidgety and break out in sweat- which has often lead to me leaving before my appointment. any advice you can give would be great, thankyou
You need to make it simple and take just one step at a time
Step One is to address the anxiety that increases to the point when you leave before you go in to see the dentist .
Seeing the dentist only committs you to finding out what you need , and not to going any further .
When you are sitting waiting try to focus on your breathing , breathing from your diaphragm rather than your chest and above .
Stay in the moment rather then letting your thoughts run on to the next stage .
Focus on just going into the room as if it were a room with nothing in it .
Bingo you will be in there !
