I Need Help, Where Should I Start?

All my life I’ve suffered anxiety over going to the dentist. I am 54 years old, I have only 2 teeth left at the top and 7 at the bottom, all rotten. My life is on hold. I can’t face a dentist as they will be disgusted at the state of my mouth, but I need help and don’t know where to start. I’ve never smiled in my life.

Let’s start with your feelings that a dentist will be disgusted with the state of your mouth. All dentists see people in different states of dental health. They are there to help you and often the feelings of being judged are within yourself.
You are blaming yourself for something you had no control over, and it’s your dental phobia that is the cause of where you are today, not some fault in you.
But it sounds like the way forward would be to get rid of the remaining teeth and have some dentures that look better.
So where to start?
I don’t know whether you would be able to afford private treatment or not, but you need to find a sympathetic dentist and explain when you book that you are nervous and will probably need new dentures. I hope this helps, you will feel so much better when the teeth are gone. Jenny.
