I need help with my extreme phobia

Hi,
Sorry to ramble on.
I’m petrified of dentists, oddly enough I didn’t mind them as a child even though I had a lot of work done. I was never encouraged to brush my teeth right from the start so I became lazy and didn’t bother, after all when they fell out the tooth fairy came!

In my late teens my lovely dentist retried, replaced by a monster! She be very rude and not give you the time of day or explain what she was doing. One day she poked a tooth too hard and it collapsed. It was agony, she snapped at me so I ran and have not been back since.

12 years on and my teeth are in a right state, I tried to take care of them but the damage was done. My top set all of my back teeth are rotten down past the gums, there are several areas that leeks pus from the gums. It can be agony and oddly enough my breath now stinks so I’ve shut myself away.

It’s time that I faced up to them and get them sorted but I’m so embarrassed about what a new dentist would say or think it has almost become worse than my fear of dentists. Plus the old dentist I had closed down many years ago and no one can seem to find any record of me. Is this a big problem?

As Iv said sorry to ramble on

I haven’t been to the dentist for 15 year

I have had nothing but problems with dentists over the years. Incorrect teeth pulled out and very painful treatments when dentists gave insufficient pain killers have lead to my phobia! Plus I have been physically sick when entering doctors/hospital/dental surgeries. I am embarrassed to say I have not been to a dentist for over 15 years because of these problems. I now have loose teeth, receding gums and badly stained teeth. I have seen your website and read how you can treat people like me. I am not looking for that bright hollywood white look, but just to feel confident in smiling again.

I am trying to find a dentist in London

I am currently hoping to find a dental practitioner in London, who is sympathetic toward people with ‘Dental Phobia’. As i have been through a terrible experience, and find it difficult to approach dentists.
I did have a good dentist at StLeonards Hospital, who appreciated dntal phobia, Unfortunately the Hosptial changed there policies , and do not take patients out of there area now. so i am left without a dentist, for over a year.
I have been getting treatment within the NHS service. But wondered if you could offer me an appointment to see and talk with you .
Im am in East London, and not 100% sure where in London your practice is.
But i stress, i am totally petrified.
Kind Regards

Should I tell my dentist I am afraid of needles?

Hello Doctor,
I started going to a new dentist last year and had to have an extraction and a few fillings. I used to be ok with this, but I felt so much pain and discomfort when she was using the needle in my mouth. It was awful. At one point she must have injected me over ten times. Now I need to go back and I know I need at least one filling but I am so terrified of the needle now. Should I mention this to the dentist (its a new one now) or just see how it goes? I know already that i will tense up before hand and be extremely nervous as I feel that way now! Do you have any advice? many thanks
