Some of my filling has broken off

Hello Dr Pinder,
I had some filling work on the front teeth last year. I think composite filling material was used. The next day when I tried to floss I couldnt get the floss into the gaps as they had the filling in. Unfortunately I think I may have broke some of it off in the process. I really struggled having the fillings as I have severe anxiety going to the dentist/ Do you think the dentist did the filling incorrectly? I didn’t want to mention it and go back because of my fear but I know I will have to return as the teeth are a little sensitive now. Thanks for your help.

Hello It depends really how large the fillings were. Sometimes its difficu... Read more

I am very nervous about going to the dentist after many years

I am a nervous patient that has not been to the dentist for about 15 years. I am so fed up with not being able to smile properly and it has caused problems in my life. I do suffer from anxiety and depression and also have a heart condition. I have teeth missing on my top row and a few stumps. I recently chipped two teeth on the bottom row. I know i need too get these sorted and i am desperately trying to face facts and push myself to get these sorted. When i was younger (about 8) i had most of my teeth extracted except for my 8 front teeth.
I still do not know why this was. I do need extensive work but i am on benefits because of my mental health.
Any help or recommendations would be highly appreciated.
Kind regards.

I would contact your local PCT and get a list of NHS practitioners who off... Read more

I need a chaperone for my sedation treatment

Good Day Doctor,

I am an anxious patient and will soon be receiving my first treatments with a specialist dentist. He will be using an IV sedative that is an amnesiac.
I will need 24 hour supervision afterwards. I am struggling to find people available to do that kind of short term care. I have a friend coming from London to Devon for one appointment but there may a few more because my teeth need a fair bit of work.
Are there any services that cater for this/? I am an NHS patient. My GP says it is a social services issue – they say it is a medical issue. My GP even said it was a dental issue not a medical one?!
Any advice would be fantatstic – I have got this far after years and don’t want to find an excuse not to go through with this,
Many thanks for any help you can give me.
