Part of my tooth has fallen off

Hello,
Part of one of my teeth has fallen off after having composite treatment on it, but I dont know if it is the composite or my tooth. Sometimes it gets very sore and sensitive and other times it is fine. i really dont like my current dentist as I dont think they do a very good job but i am not sure I can afford a private dentist.Thinking of going makes me feel sick and faint because I have had so many awful experiences there and feel very rushed and patronised. I would just like to go somewhere where they have time to talk me through treatment and to discuss things, also where I can get alternative treatment instead of needles. What would your advise be? many thanks

I would suggest that you return to the original dentist to have the tooth ... Read more

I have feared going to the dentist for ten years

Hi Jennifer,
You seem friendly so I thought to ask you what to do and how much would it cost for the procedures.

Basically I have feared going to a dentist for 10 years ever since my last ordeal were I put asleep so they could take out a tooth but I could hear everything whilst I was asleep. now my teeth or what is left of it is in really bad shape REALLY bad shape I have 5decayed tooth and and 5 decaying tooth.

I don’t like milk or cheese but eat sweets and drink fizzy juice nearly everyday so I’m a dentists nightmare but as of recent I have cut out the sweets and juice.

I’m really really petrified, embarrassed and ashamed to go dentist being of young age it does not help but I had enough and I need for this to be sorted. So I wanted to know how much it would, what to do and what practice is best to go too.

Thank you in advance

Do I have a phobia of cleaning my teeth?

Is it possible to have a phobia of cleaning your teeth? If so what can I do to overcome it?

I have a varied dental history including good and bad dentists as a child, 2-3 years of teenage orthodontic work by a lovely kind orthodontist.

As a young adult I experienced a number of ok to the down right incompetent (injected a tooth on one side and started drilling a tooth on the other side if my mouth!)

I have also had trouble with allergies to certain toothpastes ‘burning’ my lips and skin around my mouth.

I am now in my early 30s and for the last 3-4 years I have been fortunate enough to have a wonderful, kind and patient dentist. Unfortunately my previous experiences have made me very scared of even booking a checkup.

My mum encourages me and gets me there at least once a year but it is only with sleepless nights and many tears.

The trouble is that I am so ‘phobic’ about anything to do with the teeth & dentists I often skip cleaning my teeth at all so as to avoid anything to do with teeth.

Logically I know that this is only making matters worse but I cannot seem to shake this wish to avoid anything to do with my oral hygiene.

I have a small soft children’s toothbrush and have found a suitable toothpaste but am struggling to convince myself to clean my teeth once a day let alone twice.

Can you help?

Thanks

I also suffer from emetophobia

I also suffer from emetophobia and I have found that on my last several trips to the dentist for treatment some years ago that each time I went I then suffered with some sort of gastro problem including sickness within a week of the dental treatment. This has subsequently made it impossible for me to visit the dentist due to the combined dental and vomiting phobia. Is there anything I can take to prevent the infection causing vomiting? Thanks for your help and I look forward to your reply

Its unlikely that you would have picked a gastric infection from the denta... Read more
