I am afraid of having my teeth extracted

I am afraid of my teeth being extracted because its bad and broken and to make things worst its my teeth to the back of my mouth. I really want them out but am so depressed at times and they really hurt. If i take paracetamol or panadol its stops just for a few and then it starts to hurt even more worst than before. Is something else wrong with my teeth than the problems i feel? Thank you for reading my problem and I will be waiting to hear what you advise for me to do

I am scared of the dental chair

Hello Doctor,
I have a real phobia of being sat in the dentists chair after having a bad experience a few years ago. I don’t really mind the needle or drilling but as soon as I sit in the chair my heart starts racing and I feel dizzy and sick and just want to get up out of the chair. this obviously impacts on treatment because I am so tense and upset and can’t relax. i recently spoke to a friend who told me that she had heard about dentists providing treatment for patients sat u rather than in the dental chair or even stood up. I think that this would help my problem but I don’t know one-if it is true, and 2-how would I go about finding a dentist that would do this? i feel embarrassed to ask really. and would like to know your thoughts on the matter. do you perform dental work to any patients not sat in the dental chair?
thanks

Sorry to her about your difficulties.

I have an overwhelming fear of the dentist

Hello Dr Maini,
In the past year or so I have started to have an overwhelming fear of the dentist. The main problem is the pain when I have injections. I tense up and it really hurts, I have even cried from the pain. I need to get a filling and I didn’t go to my appointment for it because of this issue. I go to an NHS dentist and I know they don’t have any specialised treatment if you are scared of going to the dentist. Is there anything I can have to numb my mouth that isn’t a needle? Last time that I had a needle I could still feel the tooth and gums even after probably nearly ten injections in the area. I have heard about sedation where they put a needle in your hand but there is no way that i will have that done because of the needle element. Please help.

Sadly there isn’t

Will my new dentist judge me?

Hello, I’m 18 years old and have struggled with anorexia/binge-purge subtype for almost 7 years now, and the malnutrition had taken its toll on my teeth. I’m not even sure they grew right atall! There are two teeth (not my two front teeth, not the ones either side of them, but the ones either side of those) are higher up than the rest like fangs!

Plus my teeth are very yellow and the enamel is very thin. There’s quite a bit of a hole in one of those higher teeth, and the one next to it is rotting I’m sure, but there’s no black, it just looks dull and almost see through!

I’m going to make an appointment at a brand new dentist, but I’m terrified he’ll judge me for getting my teeth like this, and he’ll say they’re so bad he can’t do anything about it… If there is something that can be done, what can I expect? I’m so ashamed of my teeth and its getting in the way of my life, because I’m scared to open my mouth to far when I’m talking/smiling
